Welcome.

My name is Michael Cone and I appreciate your taking the time to visit my campaign website. Check back often for news and updates.

2008 is a time of sea change in America. But as the sun sets on this era, we see that the evening sky is colored red indicating smooth sailing ahead of us. We can take hold of the needed changes coming and shape them in the manner that best serves the people of South Carolina and of the United States. But to do so, we must have the leadership to help us identify and make the changes best for us rather than the current leadership which seems content to allow change to sweep over us as it will.

This is our democracy and democracy is not a spectator sport. Together, there is nothing that we cannot accomplish. So join me, and let us change our state and our country for the better.

The best way for us to retake our government is grassroots organization in our precincts, our neighborhoods, our churches, our families, and our social contacts. One or two active people on each block or street can create an organized neighborhood. Organized neighborhoods lead to organized precincts and an organized precinct is invaluable to any level of campaign. When you are an active leader in the political organization of your precinct, you have true power that all candidates need to solicit. Likewise, when you have an organized group of family, friends, and churchgoers, you have the power to make your voice heard by all politicians.

Changing History

In a campaign season, is it reasonable to ask candidates, particularly incumbents, to tell the truth. During his May 4, 2008, appearance on Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer on CNN, Senator Lindsey Graham stated that Senator John McCain opposed the 2001 Bush Tax Cuts because they did not come with adequate spending limitations. I suppose Senator Graham is trying to make his friend's conservative economic credentials appear to be more inline with the Big Con of Supply-Side Economics than they actually are; however, spending limits are not the reason Senator McCain opposed the 2001 Bush Tax Cuts according to Senator McCain in 2001. In fact, Senator McCain opposed the 2001 Bush Tax Cuts because he realized that the proposed tax cuts benefited the wealthy with little help for lower and middle income families.

I guess Senator McCain was right about one thing: don't ask Senator Graham any questions because he really does not know anything.
